Level Descriptions

One of the hardest parts of signing up for swimming lessons is knowing what level is best for your child. For example, completion of one session in a level 2 doesn't always mean your child is ready for level 3.  Many of our students take each level multiple times, fine tuning and honing their skills before they move up to the next level.  This way we can be sure that they have the foundational skills they need before we add new strokes.  If you aren't sure which class is best for your kiddo, we've come up with some quick descriptions to help you make the best choice.

Your child is ready for Level 1 if they....
- Are at least 3 years old
- Are at least 3 feet tall (exceptions can be made on an individual basis)
- Are ready to explore the water, but not quiet ready to put their head all of the way under the water
- May still be a little nervous in the water

In level 1 we help little ones acclamate to the water, teaching them how to hold their breath, put their face/head in the water and float.

Your child is ready for Level 2 if they....
- Will willingly put their whole face in the water
- Are at least 3 feet tall (preferably a little taller, since they will be standing in the pool)
- Are ready to start learning to float

In level 2 we teach three different floats (front, back and jelly fish) and the beginning front crawl and back crawl actions.

Your child is ready for Level 3 if they....
- Can float on their front and back
- Are ready to start learning to swim in the deep end (assisted by the instructors)

In level 3 we teach three different strokes; the front crawl (with breathing to the side), back crawl and elementary backstroke. We also begin learning to swim in the deep end (depending on class readiness), and when time permits, we begin jumping off of the diving board.

Your child is ready for Level 4 if they....
- Can do the front crawl
- Can do the backstroke and elementary backstroke
- Can swim in the deep end

In level 4 we refine the front crawl (and add breathing to the side), back crawl and elementary backstroke. We also begin to learn breast stroke and treading water.

Your child is ready for Level 5 if they....
- Can do the front crawl with breathing to the side
- Can do the backstroke and elementary backstroke
- Can do the side stroke and breast stroke
- Can tread water

In level 5 we perfect the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, side stroke, breast stroke and treading water. We also begin learning basic dives.

After reading these descriptions, if you still aren't sure, please don't hesitate to call and we can help you determine what level would be best.  509.735.1218
